I was treated with dignity and respect by most members of staff. Several nurses, two doctors and the radiologist were fantastic. However, a couple of serious criticisms! There was a nurse who got angry with a doctor because he wanted to keep the temporary splint on my arm because of my pain. She argued over my head that radiology wanted it off. She then moaned at me about the doctors decision because it made it difficult to get my dress off. I was in too much pain to be distressed by departmental politics. It was UTTERLY unprofessional. Patients do not need to hear the moaning and whinging of nurses with chips on their shoulders! The porter arrived when I was alone to take me to X-ray. Strapped down to a spinal board, this was terrifying. I had no idea who he was or where he was taking me. I told him I wanted my bag and he was reluctant to get it. What if he had left it? I told him to wait for ny friend. He wouldn't. I was extremely frightened as I was nauseated and the nurse had told me to ring if I was going to be sick, as I was strapped down and would have choked. I was left in corridor alone with no emergency button, in a state of panic. Luckily my friend found me about 10 minutes later. No-one should ever go through that fear and panic. Especially when you've just heard you may have broken your neck!

Location was clean and the system for treatment was efficient and easy to follow. The nurse was not brilliant in that she was unwilling to help me move a chair that she had asked me to move even though I could not walk properly and was in for a foot injury. This situation seemed a bit ridiculous really!

There were a lot of Saturday sports injuries and my son was one of perhaps six rugby emergencies. We were warned that waiting times could run as much as 3 hours. Instead, the whole visit -- 2 assessments, x-ray and a final diagnosis -- took only 90 minutes. We are no strangers to the JR, and I was so grateful that once again our local hospital took such good care of us.
